SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of Gerald Wayne Bassett of Savannah, 
4Georgia, who passed away on November 9, 2014; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Gerald Bassett was born in Wood River on June 11, 
61952 to Merle and Norine Bassett; he graduated from Roxana High 
7School in 1970; he attended DePauw University in Greencastle, 
8Indiana and graduated from Southern Illinois University 
9Edwardsville with a liberal arts degree; he received his Juris 
10Doctor from the Washington University School of Law in St. 
11Louis, Missouri in 1988; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Prior to obtaining his legal degree, Gerald 
13Bassett worked in the Madison County Chief County Assessment 
14Office; he began his law practice in Illinois, and then moved 
15to Georgia in 1995, where he maintained an office for many 
16years; he was a member of the State Bar of Georgia and the 
17Illinois State Bar Association; and
  
 
  
18    WHEREAS, Gerald Bassett was preceded in death by his 
19grandparents and a son, Jerrad Bassett; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, Gerald Bassett is survived by his parents; his 2 
21daughters, Marina Bassett and Sasha Bassett; his 3 sisters,

1Laura Bassett (Eric Friedman), Lynn Bassett (Tommy House), and 
2Rene (Tracy) Butler; and nieces, nephews, and cousins; 
3therefore, be it
  
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL 
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
6Gerald Wayne Bassett, and extend our sincere condolences to his 
7family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it 
8further
  
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
10presented to  the family of  Gerald Bassett as an expression of 
11our deepest sympathy.
