2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Clarence W. Schawk, who passed away on |
4 | | September 20, 2014; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Clarence Schawk was born on March 21, 1926 in |
6 | | Chicago; his parents were Clarence E. and Adell (nee Treptow) |
7 | | Schawk; he married Marilyn Rieck on June 6, 1953 in Chicago; |
8 | | and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Clarence Schawk was a proud member of the United |
10 | | States Marine Corps' 2nd Division, 2nd Battalion in the Pacific |
11 | | theater during the infamous Battle of Okinawa; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Clarence Schawk was the founder and longtime owner |
13 | | and operator of Schawk, Inc. in Chicago; he and his wife were |
14 | | also the owners and operators of the Geneva Inn on Lake Geneva; |
15 | | and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Clarence Schawk and his wife were the founders of |
17 | | the Clarence W. and Marilyn G. Schawk Family Foundation, which |
18 | | has been involved with many organizations, including the |
19 | | Chicago Lutheran Educational Fund, the United Way, the National |
20 | | Committee to Prevent Child Abuse, the National Foundation for |
21 | | Abused and Neglected Children, the Neediest Kids Fund, the |

1 | | Salvation Army, the Boy Scouts of America, the LEAPS Program at |
2 | | Valparaiso University, the Marine Corps Scholarship |
3 | | Foundation, inner city schools in Chicago, The Time is Now, and |
4 | | several other worthy causes; and

5 | | WHEREAS, Clarence Schawk is survived by his wife of 61 |
6 | | years, Marilyn; a sister, Dorothy Schawk; 4 children, Cathy |
7 | | Schawk, David (Teryl) Schawk, Judy (Bruce) Gallo, and Lisa |
8 | | (Scott) Stearns; 7 grandchildren, Kelly (Rob) Douglass, |
9 | | Colleen (Tom) Barlo, Kara (Adam) O'Dempsey, Jessica Gallo, |
10 | | William Stearns, Mallory Stearns, and Sarah Stearns; and 6 |
11 | | great-grandchildren, Ava, Tyler, Addison, Trevor, Travis, and |
12 | | Scarlet; therefore, be it

13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL |
14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his |
15 | | family and friends, mourn the passing of Clarence W. Schawk; |
16 | | and be it further

17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
18 | | presented to the family of Clarence Schawk as an expression of |
19 | | our sympathy.
