AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 382

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 382 by replacing
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4    "Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing Section
513A-5 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/13A-5)
7    Sec. 13A-5. Alternative school program curriculum.
8    (a) The regional superintendent shall implement, or
9contract with one or more school districts to implement, a
10multi-disciplinary curriculum, which may include work-based
11learning and community service work approved by the regional
12superintendent of schools in consultation with the State Board
13of Education for which academic credit is earned, for the
14alternative school program designed to address the
15individualized needs of the students of that program, with
16special emphasis toward making the educational experience of

1each student meaningful and worthwhile. The curriculum shall be
2designed in such a manner as to prepare students to enter a job
3training program that provides a high school diploma and a
4trade upon completion of the job training program. After such
5preparation, the student shall then be enrolled in the job
6training program. In the design and implementation of the that
7curriculum, the regional superintendent or school district
8shall give due consideration to the rules and regulations
9adopted by the State Board of Education for alternative schools
10and optional education programs. The regional superintendent
11or school district (i) may contract with third parties for any
12services otherwise performed by employees and (ii) may apply
13for waivers or modifications of mandates of this Code or of
14administrative rules as provided in Section 2-3.25g of this
15Code and as are necessary for the alternative school program.
16    (b) An administratively transferred student who
17successfully completes the job training program under
18subsection (a) of this Section requirements for his or her high
19school graduation shall receive a diploma identifying the
20student as graduating from the job training program with a high
21school diploma transferring high school. In the event the
22student is administratively transferred before enrolling in a
23high school, then that student shall receive a diploma from the
24high school the student would have attended if the student had
25not attended an alternative school program.
