1    AN ACT concerning education.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing Section
527-22.10 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/27-22.10)
7    Sec. 27-22.10. Course credit for high school diploma.
8    (a) Notwithstanding any other provision of this Code, the
9school board of a school district that maintains any of grades
109 through 12 is authorized to adopt a policy under which a
11student enrolled in grade 7 or 8 who is enrolled in the unit
12school district or would be enrolled in the high school
13district upon completion of elementary school, whichever is
14applicable, may enroll in a course required under Section 27-22
15of this Code, provided that the course is offered by the high
16school that the student would attend, and (i) the student
17participates in the course at the location of the high school,
18and the elementary student's enrollment in the course would not
19prevent a high school student from being able to enroll, or
20(ii) the student participates in the course where the student
21attends school as long as the course is taught by a high school
22teacher who holds a professional educator license issued under
23Article 21B of this Code and endorsed for the grade level and

1content area of the course certified in accordance with Article
221 of this Code who teaches in a high school of the school
3district where the student will attend when in high school and
4no high school students are enrolled in the course.
5    (b) A school board that adopts a policy pursuant to
6subsection (a) of this Section must grant academic credit to an
7elementary school student who successfully completes the high
8school course, and that credit shall satisfy the requirements
9of Section 27-22 of this Code for that course.
10    (c) A school board must award high school course credit to
11a student transferring to its school district for any course
12that the student successfully completed pursuant to subsection
13(a) of this Section, unless evidence about the course's rigor
14and content shows that it does not address the relevant
15Illinois Learning Standard at the level appropriate for the
16high school grade during which the course is usually taken, and
17that credit shall satisfy the requirements of Section 27-22 of
18this Code for that course.
19    (d) A student's grade in any course successfully completed
20under this Section must be included in his or her grade point
21average in accordance with the school board's policy for making
22that calculation.

24    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
