| 1 | | AN ACT concerning regulation.

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Hospital Licensing Act is amended by |
| 5 | | changing Section 11.7 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (210 ILCS 85/11.7) |
| 7 | | Sec. 11.7. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Education. |
| 8 | | (a) A hospital shall provide, free of charge, information
|
| 9 | | and instructional materials regarding sudden infant death |
| 10 | | syndrome (SIDS), explaining the medical effects upon infants |
| 11 | | and young children and emphasizing measures that may reduce the |
| 12 | | risk. The materials shall include information concerning safe |
| 13 | | sleep environments developed by the American Academy of |
| 14 | | Pediatrics or a statewide or nationally recognized SIDS or |
| 15 | | medical association. |
| 16 | | (b) The information and materials described in subsection |
| 17 | | (a)
shall be provided to parents or legal guardians of each |
| 18 | | newborn, upon
discharge from the hospital. Prior to discharge, |
| 19 | | a nurse or appropriate staff person shall review the proffered |
| 20 | | materials with the infant's parents or legal guardian and shall |
| 21 | | discuss best practices to reduce the incidence of SIDS as |
| 22 | | recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics. |
| 23 | | (c) Nothing in this Section prohibits a hospital from
