AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 3944 




2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 3944 by replacing 
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:

 
4    "Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended  by adding 
5Section 12-218 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/12-218 new)
7    Sec. 12-218. Auxiliary accent lighting on motorcycles.
8    (a)     A motorcycle registered in this State may be equipped 
9with, and a person operating the motorcycle may use, standard 
10bulb running lights or light–emitting diode (L.E.D.) pods and 
11strips as auxiliary lighting with the intent of protecting the 
12driver.
13    (b)     Auxiliary lighting authorized under subsection (a) of 
14this Section:
15        (1)   shall not project a beam of light of an intensity 
16    greater than 25 candlepower or its equivalent from a single

1    lamp or single light-emitting diode (L.E.D.);
2        (2)   shall not be directed horizontally;
3        (3)   shall be so directed that no part of the beam will 
4    strike the level of the surface on which the motorcycle 
5    stands at a distance of more than 10 feet from the 
6    motorcycle;
7        (4)   shall be directed towards the ground;
8        (5)   shall not emit red or blue light;
9        (6)   shall not be:
10            (A)   blinking;
11            (B)   flashing;
12            (C)   oscillating; or
13            (D)   rotating; and
14        (7)   shall not be attached to the wheels of the 
15    motorcycle.
 

16    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon 
17becoming law.".
