Creates the Petition Circulation Protection Act. Provides that no registered sex offender may circulate candidate petitions for any office, either on the registered sex offender's own behalf or on the behalf of or in the employ of another person, in any place frequented by the public or door to door on private property. Provides that any individual circulating petitions on behalf of a political candidate shall be asked if he or she is a sex offender by the person hiring or organizing circulators. Provides that, if a registered sex offender collects petitions, the signatures collected by that individual shall be void. Effective immediately.

1 | | AN ACT concerning elections.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the |
5 | | Petition Circulation Protection Act. |
6 | | Section 5. Prohibited circulators. Notwithstanding any |
7 | | other provision of law to the contrary, no registered sex |
8 | | offender may circulate candidate petitions for any office, |
9 | | either on the registered sex offender's own behalf or on the |
10 | | behalf of or in the employ of another person, in any place |
11 | | frequented by the public or door to door on private property. |
12 | | Any individual circulating petitions on behalf of a political |
13 | | candidate shall be asked if he or she is a sex offender by the |
14 | | person hiring or organizing circulators. If a registered sex |
