SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
New Act

    Creates the Petition Circulation Protection Act. Provides that no registered sex offender may circulate candidate petitions for any office, either on the registered sex offender's own behalf or on the behalf of or in the employ of another person, in any place frequented by the public or door to door on private property. Provides that any individual circulating petitions on behalf of a political candidate shall be asked if he or she is a sex offender by the person hiring or organizing circulators. Provides that, if a registered sex offender collects petitions, the signatures collected by that individual shall be void. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning elections.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the
5Petition Circulation Protection Act.
 
6    Section 5. Prohibited circulators. Notwithstanding any
7other provision of law to the contrary, no registered sex
8offender may circulate candidate petitions for any office,
9either on the registered sex offender's own behalf or on the
10behalf of or in the employ of another person, in any place
11frequented by the public or door to door on private property.
12Any individual circulating petitions on behalf of a political
13candidate shall be asked if he or she is a sex offender by the
14person hiring or organizing circulators. If a registered sex
15offender collects petitions, the signatures collected by that
16individual shall be void.
 
17    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
18becoming law.
