Amends the Criminal Code of 2012. Provides that a person also commits interference with emergency
communication when he or she knowingly prevents or attempts to prevent a person who reasonably believes an emergency is taking place from contacting a 9-1-1 emergency telephone system, obtaining medical assistance, or making a report to a law enforcement official. Provides that a violation is a Class A misdemeanor.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 5. The Criminal Code of 2012 is amended by changing |
5 | | Section 26-2 as follows:
|

7 | | Sec. 26-2. Interference with emergency communication.
|
8 | | (a) A person commits interference with emergency
|
9 | | communication when he or she knowingly, intentionally and |
10 | | without lawful
justification interrupts, disrupts, impedes, or |
11 | | otherwise interferes
with the transmission of a communication |
12 | | over a citizens band radio
channel, the purpose of which |
13 | | communication is to inform or inquire
about an emergency.

14 | | (a-5) A person commits interference with emergency
|
15 | | communication when he or she knowingly prevents or attempts to |
16 | | prevent a person who reasonably believes an emergency is taking |
17 | | place from contacting a 9-1-1 emergency telephone system, |
18 | | obtaining medical assistance, or making a report to a law |
19 | | enforcement official. |
20 | | (b) For the purpose of this Section, "emergency" means a |
21 | | condition or
circumstance in which an individual is or is |
22 | | reasonably believed by the
person transmitting the |
23 | | communication to be in imminent danger of serious
bodily injury |
