Amends the Public Utilities Act. Provides that no later than June 30, 2017, the Illinois Commerce Commission shall conduct at least one workshop and issue a report concerning how the State can continue to encourage electric utilities in their efforts to evaluate emerging technologies, products, and services associated with the provision of electric service. Effective immediately.

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

| 4 | | Section 5. The Public Utilities Act is amended by adding |
| 5 | | Section 9-228 as follows:
|

| 7 | | Sec. 9-228. Electric utility emerging technology report. |
| 8 | | No later than June 30, 2017, the Commission shall conduct at |
| 9 | | least one workshop and issue a report concerning how the State |
| 10 | | can continue to encourage electric utilities in their efforts |
| 11 | | to evaluate emerging technologies, products, and services |
| 12 | | associated with the provision of electric service to provide |
| 13 | | their customers with reliable, efficient, and safe electric |
| 14 | | service.

| 15 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
| 16 | | becoming law.
