| 4 | | "Section 5. The Local Records Act is amended by adding |
| 5 | | Section 25 as follows:

| 6 | | (50 ILCS 205/25 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 25. Police misconduct records. All records related to |
| 8 | | complaints, investigations, and adjudications of police |
| 9 | | misconduct shall be retained for 50 years. After 50 years, the |
| 10 | | records may be destroyed. This Section applies only to |
| 11 | | municipalities with a population in excess of 1,000,000.

| 12 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
| 13 | | becoming law.".
