HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The General Assembly recognizes the importance of 
3a healthy lifestyle for Illinois citizens; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, The General Assembly is cognizant of the busy 
5lives Illinoisans live and the challenges of eating healthy 
6while traveling; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, The Illinois Department of Transportation 
8maintains a system of 30 rest areas and 11 welcome centers on 
9highways throughout the State; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, These facilities serve more than 36 million 
11visitors annually and are meant to enhance traveler safety and 
12comfort; and

  
 
13    WHEREAS, Illinois citizens and travelers utilizing 
14Illinois rest areas and welcome centers would be better served 
15by having healthy snack options in vending machines; therefore, 
16be it
  
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
18NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE 
19SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we urge the Illinois Department 
20of Transportation to offer at least 3 healthy snacks containing

1less than 220 calories for every 10 snacks in vending machines 
2in State rest stops and welcome centers, of which a minimum of 
32 should be made in Illinois; and be it further
  
 
4    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 
5delivered to the Illinois Department of Transportation and the 
6Illinois Department of Central Management Services.
