AMENDMENT TO HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 29 


2    AMENDMENT NO. ___.  Amend House Joint Resolution 29 by 
3replacing everything after the heading with the following:

 
4    "WHEREAS, The General Assembly recognizes the importance 
5of a healthy lifestyle for Illinois citizens; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, The General Assembly is cognizant of the busy 
7lives Illinoisans live and the challenges of eating healthy 
8while traveling; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, The Illinois Department of Transportation 
10maintains a system of 30 rest areas and 11 welcome centers on 
11highways throughout the State; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, These facilities serve more than 36 million 
13visitors annually and are meant to enhance traveler safety and 
14comfort; and

1    WHEREAS, Illinois citizens and travelers utilizing 
2Illinois rest areas and welcome centers would be better served 
3by having healthy snack options in vending machines; therefore, 
4be it
  
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
6NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE 
7SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we urge the Illinois Department 
8of
Transportation to offer at least 2 healthy snacks containing 
9less than 220 calories for every 10 snacks in
vending machines 
10that contain non-perishable pre-packaged food in State rest 
11stops and welcome
centers, of which a minimum of one should be 
12made in Illinois if feasible; and be it further
  
 
13    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 
14delivered to the Illinois Department of Transportation and the 
15Illinois Department of Central Management Services.".
