2 | WHEREAS, Evan Marcel Turner is an American professional | ||||||
3 | basketball player, currently playing for the
Boston Celtics of | ||||||
4 | the National Basketball Association (NBA); and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Evan Turner was drafted 2nd overall by the | ||||||
6 | Philadelphia 76ers in
the 2010 NBA draft and played for them | ||||||
7 | until he was traded to the Indiana Pacers in February of 2014; | ||||||
8 | and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Evan Turner was born on October 27, 1988; he | ||||||
10 | attended St. Joseph High School in Westchester, and by his | ||||||
11 | senior season, he was one of the top high school
basketball | ||||||
12 | players at his position in the nation; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Evan Turner, as a true freshman, helped lead the | ||||||
14 | Buckeyes to the 2008
National Invitation Tournament | ||||||
15 | championship; the following year, he was the Big Ten Conference | ||||||
16 | scoring champion for
the 2008-09 season and was a first-team | ||||||
17 | 2009 All-Big Ten selection; he was also an honorable
mention | ||||||
18 | All-American and was selected as a member of the 2009 All-Big | ||||||
19 | Ten Conference Tournament team and he
became one of 5 Big Ten | ||||||
20 | players to have been among the top 10 in the conference in | ||||||
21 | average points, rebounds, and
assists in the same season; and

1 | WHEREAS, Evan Turner was a first-team 2010 NCAA Men's | ||||||
2 | Basketball All-American and the 2010 National Player of the | ||||||
3 | Year; he was
also a 2-time Big Ten Conference scoring champion | ||||||
4 | and the 2010 Big Ten Conference Men's Basketball Player of the
| ||||||
5 | Year; he was twice the only player named as a unanimous | ||||||
6 | first-team selection by both the coaches and the media to the
| ||||||
7 | All-Big Ten team (2008-09, 2009-10); by finishing first in | ||||||
8 | scoring and second in both rebounds and assists in the
| ||||||
9 | conference in the 2009-10 season, he was the first men's | ||||||
10 | basketball player to finish in the top 2 in each of these
| ||||||
11 | categories and the first to finish in the top 5 in each | ||||||
12 | category in the same season; he is the conference record-holder

13 | for most career and single-season Conference Player of the Week | ||||||

15 | WHEREAS, Evan Turner plays the
point guard, shooting guard, | ||||||
16 | and small forward positions; therefore, be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
18 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE | ||||||
19 | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate West Cermak Road | ||||||
20 | between South Pulaski Road and South Laramie Avenue in Berwyn | ||||||
21 | as the "Evan Turner Street"; and be it further | ||||||
22 | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of
Transportation
| ||||||
23 | is
requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with |
| |||||||
| |||||||
1 | State
and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs | ||||||
2 | giving
notice of the name
"Evan Turner Street"; and be it | ||||||
3 | further
| ||||||
4 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
| ||||||
5 | delivered to the Secretary of the Illinois Department of
| ||||||
6 | Transportation
and Evan Turner.
