2 | WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General | ||||||
3 | Assembly pays honor and respect to
individuals who gave their | ||||||
4 | lives in the line of duty; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Trooper Frank Doris was born on April 28, 1925; he | ||||||
6 | served in World War II, entering
active service as a draftee on | ||||||
7 | August 20, 1943 at Chicago; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Trooper Frank Doris served in Europe and Africa; | ||||||
9 | he was honorably discharged on
April 9, 1946, having earned | ||||||
10 | several medals and awards; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Trooper Frank Doris was assigned to work at the | ||||||
12 | State Police Headquarters of
District 12 in Watson; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, As Trooper Doris was heading
southbound on U.S. 45 | ||||||
14 | to his residence 4 miles north of Flora, he stopped a car for | ||||||
15 | speeding, and while he was sitting in a squad
car filling out | ||||||
16 | the arrest ticket, the suspect driver standing behind the squad | ||||||
17 | car shot Trooper Doris
in the head; and | ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Other trooper patrols were able to apprehend the | ||||||
19 | suspect and the suspect was
convicted of the murder; and

1 | WHEREAS, Trooper Frank Doris is fondly remembered and | ||||||
2 | appreciated by family, friends, and
the public whom he | ||||||
3 | dutifully served; therefore, be it
| ||||||
4 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
5 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE | ||||||
6 | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the section of | ||||||
7 | Interstate 57 from the Tri-level south of Effingham to
Watson | ||||||
8 | Exit 151 as the "Trooper Frank Doris Memorial Highway"; and be | ||||||
9 | it further | ||||||
10 | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation | ||||||
11 | is requested to erect at suitable
locations, consistent with | ||||||
12 | State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs | ||||||
13 | giving
notice of the name of the "Trooper Frank Doris Memorial | ||||||
14 | Highway"; and be it further
| ||||||
15 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
16 | presented to the family of Trooper Frank
Doris, the Illinois | ||||||
17 | State Police, the Effingham Sunrise Rotary Club, the Mayor of | ||||||
18 | the City of
Effingham, and the Secretary of the Illinois | ||||||
19 | Department of Transportation.
