2 | | WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General |
3 | | Assembly pays honor and respect to individuals who gave their |
4 | | lives in the line of duty; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Joshua Melton was born on October |
6 | | 8, 1982 in Breese; his parents were Michael Melton and Debbie |
7 | | Brown; he married Larissa Melton on July 22, 2006 at St. |
8 | | Boniface Church in Germantown; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, SSG Joshua Melton served his country with pride |
10 | | and distinction as a member of the Illinois Army National |
11 | | Guard, joining a year before his graduation from Central |
12 | | Community High School in Breese; he was on his second |
13 | | deployment after serving in Iraq from December of 2004 to March |
14 | | of 2006; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, SSG Joshua Melton enjoyed spending time with his |
16 | | family and friends, especially his daughter, Aubrey; he enjoyed |
17 | | remote controlled cars and making everyone laugh; he was also |
18 | | an avid hunter and fisherman; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, SSG Joshua Melton was a member of Carlyle Veterans |
20 | | of Foreign Wars Post 3523; and |

1 | | WHEREAS, SSG Joshua Melton was preceded in death by his |
2 | | grandparents, Clarice and Bill Reddick; his grandfather, Jenks |
3 | | Edward Warren; his grandmother, Nadine Melton; his uncles, |
4 | | Dennis Melton and Tim Hitpas; and his aunt, Doris Legate; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, SSG Joshua Melton is survived by his wife, Larissa |
6 | | Melton, who is now married to Jon Kampwerth and has a daughter, |
7 | | Aniston; his daughter, Aubrey Melton; his mother, Debbie |
8 | | (Warren) Brown; his brother, Dustin (Lauren) Melton and their |
9 | | children, Hunter and Aliya; his father-in-law, Steve Verdeyen; |
10 | | his mother-in-law, Carolyn (Rick) Pennington; his |
11 | | sister-in-law, Andrea (Jacob) Richter; his grandfather, Elmer |
12 | | Melton, and his many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, SSG Joshua Melton served as a model of patriotism, |
14 | | courage, and integrity for the people of the State of Illinois; |
15 | | therefore, be it

16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
17 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE |
18 | | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the portion of |
19 | | United States Route 50 between the Cities of Carlyle and Breese |
20 | | as the SSG Joshua Melton Memorial Highway; and be it further

21 | | RESOLVED, That the Department of Transportation is |
22 | | requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with State |
