2 | WHEREAS, Clyde Robertson's (1922-2015) service to his | ||||||
3 | community
began in 1941, at the age of 19, as a teacher of | ||||||
4 | seventh and eighth
grades at the Creal Springs School; in 1943, | ||||||
5 | he was drafted into the United States Army; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, After
being discharged at the end of World War II, | ||||||
7 | Clyde Robertson returned to Creal Springs; he immediately | ||||||
8 | resumed his
community service as the first Commander of the | ||||||
9 | Veterans of Foreign Wars in Creal Springs, as
well as by | ||||||
10 | teaching night classes to local veterans; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Clyde Robertson worked as a rural mail
carrier for | ||||||
12 | 36 years; he served on the Creal Springs City Council from
1965 | ||||||
13 | to 1969 and later served on the Creal Springs Park Board for | ||||||
14 | many years, where he excelled
in organizing the parade for the | ||||||
15 | annual festival celebrating the founding of the city; he was | ||||||
16 | well-known for the "biggest" parade in the area; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Clyde Robertson never missed a Sunday service
at | ||||||
18 | his beloved Creal Springs Methodist Church, where throughout | ||||||
19 | the years he served in all
positions; if you missed a Sunday | ||||||
20 | service, he did not fail to call you with a cheerful "Hope to
| ||||||
21 | see you next Sunday" to let you know you were missed; and

1 | WHEREAS, Clyde Robertson was a great inspiration to | ||||||
2 | everyone, especially since he would not let a
spinal cord | ||||||
3 | injury he suffered in January of 1990, which made him spend | ||||||
4 | most of his time in a wheel chair,
prevent him from continuing | ||||||
5 | his work in the community; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, The Clyde Robertson Community Service Award was | ||||||
7 | established in 1996 to be given to anyone who could "fill his | ||||||
8 | shoes" in community service within the
City of Creal Springs; | ||||||
9 | therefore, be it
| ||||||
10 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
11 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE | ||||||
12 | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the portion of | ||||||
13 | Illinois Route 166 in Creal Springs that runs from White Street | ||||||
14 | to Walnut Street as the "Clyde Robertson Memorial Highway"; and | ||||||
15 | be it further

16 | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
| ||||||
17 | is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
| ||||||
18 | State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
| ||||||
19 | giving notice of the name the "Clyde Robertson Memorial | ||||||
20 | Highway";
and be it further | ||||||
21 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
| ||||||
22 | presented to the family of Clyde Robertson, the Mayor of
Creal |
