HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois General Assembly wish to congratulate the staff of WGLT Public Radio on the occasion of the station's 50th anniversary in 2016; and

WHEREAS, WGLT's first broadcast was held on February 6, 1966 from Illinois State University; the station has been a public service of the University ever since; WGLT stands for Gladly Learn and Teach, inspired by the University's motto: "Gladly we learn and teach"; and

WHEREAS, WGLT has served central Illinois with comprehensive local, national, and international news, information, and entertainment for 5 decades, including programming from National Public Radio, Public Radio International, and other public radio networks; and

WHEREAS, WGLT News has been honored with scores of awards for excellence in broadcast journalism, including 96 regional Associated Press awards, 34 regional and 5 national Edward R. Murrow awards, 6 regional and 2 national UPI awards, and 4 national awards from Public Radio News Directors, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, WGLT has acted as a catalyst for McLean County's thriving arts and culture community by bringing award-winning national artists, speakers, and performers to central Illinois; and

WHEREAS, With financial support from the community it serves, WGLT has grown to become more than radio, connecting central Illinois to the wider world through ideas, engagement, and entertainment; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we congratulate the staff of WGLT Public Radio on the occasion of the station's 50th anniversary in 2016 and wish them continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to WGLT Public Radio as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
