HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois General Assembly wish
3to congratulate the staff of WGLT Public Radio on the occasion
4of the station's 50th anniversary in 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, WGLT's first broadcast was held on February 6,
61966 from Illinois State University; the station has been a
7public service of the University ever since; WGLT stands for
8Gladly Learn and Teach, inspired by the University's motto:
9"Gladly we learn and teach"; and
 
10    WHEREAS, WGLT has served central Illinois with
11comprehensive local, national, and international news,
12information, and entertainment for 5 decades, including
13programming from National Public Radio, Public Radio
14International, and other public radio networks; and
 
15    WHEREAS, WGLT News has been honored with scores of awards
16for excellence in broadcast journalism, including 96 regional
17Associated Press awards, 34 regional and 5 national Edward R.
18Murrow awards, 6 regional and 2 national UPI awards, and 4
19national awards from Public Radio News Directors, Inc.; and
 
20    WHEREAS, WGLT has acted as a catalyst for McLean County's
21thriving arts and culture community by bringing award-winning

1national artists, speakers, and performers to central
2Illinois; and
 
3    WHEREAS, With financial support from the community it
4serves, WGLT has grown to become more than radio, connecting
5central Illinois to the wider world through ideas, engagement,
6and entertainment; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
9SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we congratulate the staff of
10WGLT Public Radio on the occasion of the station's 50th
11anniversary in 2016 and wish them continued success and
12happiness in the future; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to WGLT Public Radio as a symbol of our esteem and
15respect.
