HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General

3Assembly pays honor and respect to individuals who have given 
4their
lives in the line of duty; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Trooper Chong Soo Lim, Badge #4348, was killed in 
6the line of duty on June 6, 1995, at the age of 29; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, Trooper Lim was killed on Interstate 90 Westbound 
8at (then) Milepost 18.3 when his patrol car was struck from 
9behind as he conducted a traffic stop on the Northwest Tollway; 
10and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Trooper Lim had been a State Trooper for 5 years 
12and was a graduate of the University of Illinois in Chicago; 
13and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, Trooper Lim was born in South Korea and moved with 
15his family to the United States in the late 1970s; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, Trooper Lim patrolled District 3 in Chicago upon 
17his graduation from the Illinois State Police Academy; he 
18transferred to the midnight shift in District 15, Oak Brook, 
19just one month before his death; and

1    WHEREAS, Annually the Asian American Law Enforcement 
2Association honors Trooper Lim with a memorial scholarship; 
3therefore, be it
  
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
5NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE 
6SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the State Route 59 
7overpass over Interstate 90 the "Trooper Chong Soo Lim Memorial 
8Overpass"; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That the Illinois State Tollway Highway 
10Authority is requested to erect at suitable locations, 
11consistent with
State and federal regulations, appropriate 
12plaques or signs
giving notice of the name of the
"Trooper 
13Chong Soo Lim Memorial Overpass"; and be it further
  
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
15presented to the family of Trooper Lim and the Executive 
16Director of the Illinois State Tollway Highway Authority.
