2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois General Assembly are |
3 | | pleased to honor those who have given their lives to protect |
4 | | the people of this State; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Deputy Sheriff Elizabeth Mazella Edwards, the |
6 | | youngest daughter of Wayne and Nancie "Susie" Edwards, was born |
7 | | on June 2, 1979; she attended Hardin County schools, where she |
8 | | had many, many friends; she was active in softball, band, and |
9 | | cross-country; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, In May of 1997, Deputy Sheriff Edwards was |
11 | | baptized at the Hardin County Church of Christ; she graduated |
12 | | from Hardin County High School and spent a year at |
13 | | Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tennessee, and |
14 | | attended Southeastern Illinois College; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, After the events of September 11, 2001, Deputy |
16 | | Sheriff Edwards joined the United States Army Reserves and |
17 | | proudly served her country; she went on to serve in another |
18 | | capacity, becoming a Deputy for the Hardin County Sheriffs |
19 | | Department in the fall of 2005; and

20 | | WHEREAS, Deputy Sheriff Edwards was killed in the line of |
21 | | duty while responding to a traffic accident on February 12, |
