| 1 | HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The University Retirement System of Illinois | ||||||
| 3 | became effective on September 1, 1941 to provide retirement | ||||||
| 4 | annuities and other benefits for employees of the University of | ||||||
| 5 | Illinois and other State colleges and universities; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, The University Retirement System of Illinois | ||||||
| 7 | became known as the State Universities Retirement System on | ||||||
| 8 | March 18, 1963; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, The State Universities Retirement System is | ||||||
| 10 | governed by a Board of Trustees, comprised of four elected | ||||||
| 11 | contributing members, two elected annuitant members, and five | ||||||
| 12 | appointed members, including the Chair of the Board of Higher | ||||||
| 13 | Education; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, The State Universities Retirement System offers | ||||||
| 15 | three retirement plan options for its members, including the | ||||||
| 16 | Traditional Defined-Benefit Plan, Portable Defined-Benefit | ||||||
| 17 | Plan, and the Self-Managed Plan; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, The State Universities Retirement System manages | ||||||
| 19 | $19.2 billion worth of assets and has achieved a 30-year rate | ||||||
| 20 | of return of 9.2% as of State Fiscal Year 2015; and
| ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | WHEREAS, The State Universities Retirement System annually | ||||||
| 2 | processes more than $2.2 billion in member benefits as of State | ||||||
| 3 | Fiscal Year 2015; and | ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, The State Universities Retirement System | ||||||
| 5 | currently serves more than 60 employers and administers pension | ||||||
| 6 | benefits for more than 228,000 members as of State Fiscal Year | ||||||
| 7 | 2015; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, The State Universities Retirement System | ||||||
| 9 | continues to serve its mission of securing and delivering the | ||||||
| 10 | retirement benefits promised to its members; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 11 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 12 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE | ||||||
| 13 | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we congratulate the State | ||||||
| 14 | Universities Retirement System on its 75th anniversary and | ||||||
| 15 | thank them for their professionalism and dedication to public | ||||||
| 16 | service; and be it further
| ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 18 | presented to the Board of Trustees of the State Universities | ||||||
| 19 | Retirement System.
