| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of John B. | ||||||
| 4 | Goodrich, who passed away on December 9, 2014; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, John Goodrich was born on January 4, 1928 in | ||||||
| 6 | Spokane, Washington; his parents were John Casey and Dorothy | ||||||
| 7 | (nee Koll) Goodrich; he married Therese H. Vollmer in 1952; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, John Goodrich attended Catholic schools in | ||||||
| 9 | Spokane, including Gonzaga Preparatory School and Gonzaga | ||||||
| 10 | University; he subsequently earned his Juris Doctor from the | ||||||
| 11 | Gonzaga University School of Law in 1954 and was admitted to | ||||||
| 12 | the Washington Bar in 1954; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, In 1955, John Goodrich accepted a position as | ||||||
| 14 | Assistant to the General Counsel of the Chromium Mining and | ||||||
| 15 | Smelting Corporation, which brought him to the Chicago area; he | ||||||
| 16 | was admitted to the Illinois Bar and the United States Supreme | ||||||
| 17 | Court in 1955; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, John Goodrich began his railroad career in 1956 as | ||||||
| 19 | General Solicitor for the Monon Railroad; he rose through the | ||||||
| 20 | Railroad's Law Department, going from Secretary/Treasurer to | ||||||
| 21 | Vice President of Law in 1969; in 1970, he went to the Illinois | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | Central Gulf Railroad and served as General Counsel before | ||||||
| 2 | becoming Treasurer at Illinois Central Gulf in 1985; and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, After retiring from the railroad, John Goodrich | ||||||
| 4 | served as General Counsel for the Illinois Finance Authority in | ||||||
| 5 | Chicago before retiring again to play golf, travel, keep a | ||||||
| 6 | small private law practice, and grow a moustache; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, John Goodrich was a member of the Park Forest | ||||||
| 8 | Traffic and Safety Commission and the Recreation and Parks | ||||||
| 9 | Board; he served as a Village Trustee of Park Forest from 1977 | ||||||
| 10 | to 1980; he was a member of the District 163 School Board and | ||||||
| 11 | the boards of the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra and the Tall | ||||||
| 12 | Grass Arts Association; he served on the Chicago South Suburban | ||||||
| 13 | Mass Transit District Board from 1996 to 2014; he was an | ||||||
| 14 | actively involved member of St. Irenaeus Parish, having served | ||||||
| 15 | on the religious education school board for many years and | ||||||
| 16 | singing in the church choir; he was also active in the Knights | ||||||
| 17 | of Columbus for over 60 years; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, John Goodrich and his wife were inducted into the | ||||||
| 19 | Park Forest Historical Society Hall of Fame in 1998; and | ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, John Goodrich was preceded in death by his | ||||||
| 21 | parents; a sister, Ann; and a daughter, Paula Marie; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, John Goodrich is survived by his wife of 62 years, | ||||||
| 2 | Therese; his children, Joe and Carol Goodrich, Bernadette and | ||||||
| 3 | Peter Morrison, Andrew and Mary Goodrich, Philip and Gail | ||||||
| 4 | Goodrich, Thomas Goodrich, Marybeth Goodrich-McCarthy, | ||||||
| 5 | Jennifer Goodrich and German White, Tim and Rosanne | ||||||
| 6 | Goodrich-Schutz, and foster son Rudy Moreno; and 11 | ||||||
| 7 | grandchildren, Kim (Josh), Stephanie, John J., Peter, Jr., | ||||||
| 8 | Claire, Valerie, Nick (Katie), Nathan, Thomas, Melissa, and | ||||||
| 9 | Michael; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 10 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 11 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 12 | we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 13 | John B. Goodrich; and be it further
| ||||||
| 14 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 15 | presented to the family of John Goodrich as an expression of | ||||||
| 16 | our sympathy.
