HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to honor Julie E. Hamos, former Director
4of the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services
5(DHFS), on her distinguished career in public service; and
 
6    WHEREAS, In April of 2010, Director Hamos was appointed to
7oversee DHFS, a $19.5 billion State agency responsible for
8providing healthcare coverage for adults and children and for
9providing child support services; she oversaw the expansion of
10managed medical care and the expansion of healthcare coverage
11under President Obama's Affordable Care Act; and
 
12    WHEREAS, From 1999 to 2010, Director Hamos served as State
13Representative of the 18th District; during her tenure in the
14General Assembly, she spearheaded legislation on numerous
15issues, including healthcare, agriculture, housing,
16telecommunications, mass transit, and aviation; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Director Hamos served as President of Julie E.
18Hamos & Associates from 1988 to 2007; she was Director of the
19Cook County State's Attorney's Office, Child Support Division
20from 1985 to 1988; Legislative Counsel for the Cook County
21State's Attorney's Office from 1981 to 1985; Director of
22Legislation and Political Action for the American Federation of

1State, County, & Municipal Employees from 1979 to 1980;
2Legislative Attorney for the Legislative Support Center in
3Springfield from 1976 to 1979; and Staff Attorney for the
4United States House Ways and Means Committee, Subcommittee on
5Oversight in Washington, D.C. from 1975 to 1976; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Director Hamos was named a fellow at the Harvard
7Kennedy School of Government for Senior Executives in State and
8Local Government in 2004; she has been named a "top legislator"
9by more than 50 organizations and was one of "25 Women to
10Watch" in Crain's Chicago Business in 2007; she has received
11numerous awards, recognitions, and honors throughout her
12career; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Director Hamos received her Bachelor of Arts from
14Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri in June of 1972,
15and her Juris Doctor from The National Law Center at George
16Washington University in Washington, D.C. in June of 1975; she
17is a licensed attorney in Ohio and Illinois; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
19NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
20honor Julie E. Hamos, former Director of the Illinois
21Department of Healthcare and Family Services, on her
22distinguished career in public service and wish her the best in
23all her future endeavors; and be it further
