| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Pastor Nathaniel L. | ||||||
| 4 | Edmond and First Lady Christine Edmond on the occasion of their | ||||||
| 5 | 15th anniversary with Second Baptist Church of Elgin; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Pastor Edmond was installed as pastor of Second | ||||||
| 7 | Baptist Church of Elgin on February 20, 2000; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Pastor Edmond, Second | ||||||
| 9 | Baptist Church of Elgin has experienced tremendous growth; | ||||||
| 10 | numerous ministries have been started, including the Young | ||||||
| 11 | Adult Ministry, the Public Relations Ministry, the Prison | ||||||
| 12 | Ministry, the Bus Ministry, the Information Technology | ||||||
| 13 | Ministry, The Empowerment Ministry, the League of Military | ||||||
| 14 | Veterans Ministry, and a street ministry entitled "Operation | ||||||
| 15 | Joshua"; a second Sunday service and a mid-week service have | ||||||
| 16 | been added; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Pastor Edmund led the church in celebration of the | ||||||
| 18 | 140th anniversary of its founding in July of 2006; in March of | ||||||
| 19 | 2008, the church received the Community Improvement Program | ||||||
| 20 | Renovation Award from The Elgin Courier and the Elgin Area | ||||||
| 21 | Chamber of Commerce; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Pastor Edmond and First Lady Edmond joined the | ||||||
| 2 | Illinois Commission on Diversity and Human Relations on a trip | ||||||
| 3 | to Israel as "Peace Ambassadors", spending 8 days visiting | ||||||
| 4 | historically significant and sacred sites; in October of 2006, | ||||||
| 5 | they traveled to Africa as part of World Vision International | ||||||
| 6 | to witness firsthand the effects AIDS/HIV has had on countries | ||||||
| 7 | in that region; and | ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Pastor Edmond was named to Sherman Hospital's | ||||||
| 9 | Board of Directors, the first African-American with voting | ||||||
| 10 | privileges, in August of 2007; he received an Honorary | ||||||
| 11 | Doctorate of Sacred Theology from Judson University in December | ||||||
| 12 | of 2010; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, A celebration in honor of the Edmunds will be held | ||||||
| 14 | on February 1, 2015; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 16 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 17 | congratulate Pastor Nathaniel L. Edmond and First Lady | ||||||
| 18 | Christine Edmond on their 15th anniversary with Second Baptist | ||||||
| 19 | Church of Elgin and wish them many more years of success; and | ||||||
| 20 | be it further
| ||||||
| 21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 22 | presented to the Edmonds as an expression of our esteem and | ||||||
