HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Dr. Paul Selden on the occasion of his retirement from Connections for the Homeless; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Paul Selden has been a crusader against the blight of homelessness on our community for almost 40 years; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Paul Selden's work with the homeless has included leadership roles with the Jericho Project and Emmaus House in New York City, Next Steps Partners, and Connections for the Homeless; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Paul Selden has been an innovator in developing services for those who are homeless or unstably housed through his work as a co-founder of the National Coalition for the Homeless, as a board member of the Coalition for the Homeless in New York, as Director of the Chicago Continuum of Care, as a board member of Housing Action Illinois, and as a member of the Alliance to End Homelessness in Suburban Cook County; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Paul Selden has transformed Connections for the Homeless in Evanston from a traditional shelter into a Housing First Program that helps those in need to regain long-term housing stability; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Paul Selden has positioned Connections for the Homeless for future growth and innovation as the need for homeless services on the North Shore has doubled since the recession began; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Dr. Paul Selden on the occasion of his retirement from Connections for the Homeless and for his plans to continue advocacy and public education activities in pursuit of systemic changes that will result in an end to homelessness; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Paul Selden as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
