| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Alfred |
| 4 | | Edward "Buddy" Watson of Chicago, who passed away on December |
| 5 | | 20, 2014; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Alfred Watson was born in Halls, Tennessee on |
| 7 | | August 25, 1934 to Joseph Lewis and Mary Ella (nee Roundtree) |
| 8 | | Watson; he graduated from Lauderdale County High School in |
| 9 | | Tennessee and attended Tennessee State University; he studied |
| 10 | | at Central YMCA College in Chicago for real estate law, sales, |
| 11 | | and management, and then at Loop College (now Harold Washington |
| 12 | | College) for urban development in real estate; he married Naomi |
| 13 | | Lawrence on April 21, 1957; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Alfred Watson began his career working for the |
| 15 | | Chicago Transit Authority; he was Vice-President of Real Estate |
| 16 | | at the Supreme Life Insurance Company of America for 11 years, |
| 17 | | Life Safety Inspector for the Cook County Department of |
| 18 | | Education for 4 years, and Deputy Commissioner in the |
| 19 | | Department of Building and Zoning; he retired in 2011; he |
| 20 | | served in Cook County Government for 28 years; and |
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Alfred Watson was active in Democratic politics; |
| 22 | | he was Precinct Captain for the 4th Ward Democratic |

| 1 | | Organization, President of the 4th Ward Young Democratic |
| 2 | | Organization, Central Area Chairman of the Young Democrats of |
| 3 | | Illinois, and the Advisor to the 8th Ward Committeeman; and
|
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Alfred Watson was a member of Antioch Missionary |
| 5 | | Baptist Church and then Life Center C.O.G.I.C.; he could often |
| 6 | | be seen spending time with neighbors, snow blowing, and mowing |
| 7 | | his lawn with his dog, Bullet; he enjoyed dressing up as Santa |
| 8 | | to entertain children during Christmas; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Alfred Watson was preceded in death by his |
| 10 | | parents; his son, Cleve Watson; and his 2 siblings, Dr. Ruby |
| 11 | | Watson-Jackson and Dr. Charles E. Watson; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Alfred Watson is survived by his wife of 57 years, |
| 13 | | Naomi; his 4 children, Toya Medford-Rainer, Crystal Mock, |
| 14 | | Alfred (Beverly) Watson, and Joseph (Jamilah) Watson; his 12 |
| 15 | | grandchildren; his 11 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Dr. |
| 16 | | L. Marilyn Watson and Dr. Marian L. Watson; his sister-in-law, |
| 17 | | Parthenia L. Manning; and a host of nieces and nephews; |
| 18 | | therefore, be it

| 19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 20 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 21 | | mourn the passing of Alfred Edward "Buddy" Watson, and extend |
| 22 | | our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who |
