HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Clarence
4"Red" Lowery, Jr. of Benton, who passed away on January 16,
52015; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Clarence Lowery, Jr. was born in Benton on January
718, 1926 to Clarence Lowery, Sr. and Bess (nee Sharp) Biggs; he
8attended Benton Consolidated High School, where he was
9President of the Class of 1944 and an All-State fullback for
10the Benton Rangers football team; he served in the United
11States Army during World War II and was involved in the Battle
12of Luzon in the Philippines, during which, on May 11, 1945, he
13sustained injuries in battle and was awarded the Purple Heart;
14following his service, he returned home and attended Erskine
15College, where he played football and basketball; he married
16Kathleen Collins on May 20, 1953; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Clarence Lowery, Jr. worked as a teacher and coach
18before joining the Mobil Oil Company as a regional salesman,
19receiving several national awards for excellence over his
20career before retiring; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Clarence Lowery, Jr. was an active member of the
22Benton community, serving on the Benton Consolidated High

1School board for more than a decade and on the Benton City
2Council; he was a candidate for State Representative in 1970;
3he was also a member of the Benton Veterans of Foreign Wars
4Post 2671, the Benton American Legion Post 280, and the Benton
5Masonic Lodge 64 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons; he was a
6proud alumnus of Erskine College and was inducted into its Hall
7of Fame in 1982 for outstanding performance in football and
8basketball; and
9
10    WHEREAS, Clarence Lowery, Jr. enjoyed keeping up with
11current events and traveling; he visited countries all over the
12world and made frequent trips to Las Vegas; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Clarence Lowery, Jr. was preceded in death by his
14parents; his brother, Max Lowery; and his sister, Helen Franko;
15and
 
16    WHEREAS, Clarence Lowery, Jr. is survived by his wife of 61
17years, Kathleen Lowery; his 4 children, Lynn Alligood and
18husband, Bob, Cindy Lowery, Clarence Clyde "C.C." Lowery and
19wife, Heidi, and Rob Lowery and wife, Lisa; his grandchildren,
20Kathleen Wubker and husband, Brian, Olivia Lowery, Christopher
21Lowery, Clarence Wade Lowery, Ryan Lowery, and Mackenzie
22Lowery; his great-grandchildren, Lillian Kathleen Warpinski,
23Sophia Wubker, and Bennett Wubker; his uncle, Clarence Lowery;
24his nephew, Bill Lowery; and several other nieces and nephews;

1therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
3NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
4mourn the passing of Clarence "Red" Lowery, Jr., and extend our
5sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
6and loved him; and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to the family of Clarence Lowery, Jr. as an
9expression of our deepest sympathy.
