| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Girl Scouts of the USA is the largest organization | ||||||
| 3 | for girls in the world; its stated
mission is to build girls of | ||||||
| 4 | courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a
better | ||||||
| 5 | place; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, The Girl Scouts participate in activities ranging | ||||||
| 7 | from science and
technology to business and economic literacy | ||||||
| 8 | to outdoor and environmental awareness; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, The Girl Scouts help girls to foster their | ||||||
| 10 | leadership potential through activities that
allow them to | ||||||
| 11 | discover their values, skills, and the world around them, as | ||||||
| 12 | well as to engage with
others in a multicultural environment; | ||||||
| 13 | and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, There are almost 3 million Girl Scouts across the | ||||||
| 15 | nation and approximately 54,000
youth Girl Scouts in the State | ||||||
| 16 | of Illinois, along with tens of thousands of adult volunteers
| ||||||
| 17 | participating in activities to improve their local | ||||||
| 18 | communities, the State, and the world; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, The Girl Scouts annually develop a legislative | ||||||
| 20 | agenda which
engages both the federal and State levels of | ||||||
| 21 | government to promote leadership opportunities for
girls by | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | increasing girls' involvement in science, technology, | ||||||
| 2 | engineering, and math (STEM),
strengthening financial literacy | ||||||
| 3 | and entrepreneurial skills, and promoting safe and healthy | ||||||
| 4 | living
by reducing bullying and relational aggression; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Girl Scout Day at the Illinois Capitol is a day | ||||||
| 6 | that encourages Girl Scouts across
Illinois to discover girl | ||||||
| 7 | power from the past, present, and future and to learn how women | ||||||
| 8 | of
history have paved the way for the female leaders of | ||||||
| 9 | tomorrow; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, On May 15, 2015 Girl Scouts from across Illinois | ||||||
| 11 | will gather at the Illinois State
Capitol to meet with State | ||||||
| 12 | government leaders and staff to discuss the governmental | ||||||
| 13 | process and
to learn how to advocate for the issues most | ||||||
| 14 | important to them; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 16 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 17 | declare May 15, 2015 as Girl Scout Day at the Illinois
State | ||||||
| 18 | Capitol to acknowledge the dedication and commitment that the | ||||||
| 19 | Girl Scouts of Illinois
demonstrate to the people of the State; | ||||||
| 20 | and be it further
| ||||||
| 21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 22 | presented to the Girl Scouts of Central
Illinois Council on | ||||||

| 1 | behalf of all Illinois Girl Scouts as a symbol of our respect | ||||||
| 2 | and admiration for
all the work that Girl Scouts perform | ||||||
| 3 | throughout the State.
