HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Girl Scouts of the USA is the largest organization
3for girls in the world; its stated mission is to build girls of
4courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better
5place; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Girl Scouts participate in activities ranging
7from science and technology to business and economic literacy
8to outdoor and environmental awareness; and
 
9    WHEREAS, The Girl Scouts help girls to foster their
10leadership potential through activities that allow them to
11discover their values, skills, and the world around them, as
12well as to engage with others in a multicultural environment;
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, There are almost 3 million Girl Scouts across the
15nation and approximately 54,000 youth Girl Scouts in the State
16of Illinois, along with tens of thousands of adult volunteers
17participating in activities to improve their local
18communities, the State, and the world; and
 
19    WHEREAS, The Girl Scouts annually develop a legislative
20agenda which engages both the federal and State levels of
21government to promote leadership opportunities for girls by

1increasing girls' involvement in science, technology,
2engineering, and math (STEM), strengthening financial literacy
3and entrepreneurial skills, and promoting safe and healthy
4living by reducing bullying and relational aggression; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Girl Scout Day at the Illinois Capitol is a day
6that encourages Girl Scouts across Illinois to discover girl
7power from the past, present, and future and to learn how women
8of history have paved the way for the female leaders of
9tomorrow; and
 
10    WHEREAS, On May 15, 2015 Girl Scouts from across Illinois
11will gather at the Illinois State Capitol to meet with State
12government leaders and staff to discuss the governmental
13process and to learn how to advocate for the issues most
14important to them; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
17declare May 15, 2015 as Girl Scout Day at the Illinois State
18Capitol to acknowledge the dedication and commitment that the
19Girl Scouts of Illinois demonstrate to the people of the State;
20and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the Girl Scouts of Central Illinois Council on

1behalf of all Illinois Girl Scouts as a symbol of our respect
2and admiration for all the work that Girl Scouts perform
3throughout the State.
