HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Ron Kiefer on being named 
4the 2015 Citizen of the Year by the City of Darien; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Ron Kiefer has been an educator, counselor, and 
6principal in the Cicero School District; after 34 years of 
7guiding, enriching, and enhancing thousands of young lives, he 
8retired in 2000; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, Ron Kiefer was a member of the Jaycees in the 
101960s and 1970s; in 1971, he was selected as one of the "Ten 
11Outstanding Young Men" by the Illinois Jaycees; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Ron Kiefer was elected to the Morton College Board 
13of Trustees in 1983, serving 7 years, 2 of them as Board 
14Chairman; he served 2 years as Chairman of the Educational 
15Excellence Committee of the Illinois Community College 
16Trustees Association and was Chairman of the West Suburban 
17Region of Community Trustees  for one year; he served over 20 
18years with the Morton Scholarship League, 10 of them as 
19President; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, Ron Kiefer served as President of the Children's 
21Center of Cicero-Berwyn and was awarded the "Hold My Hand

1Award" in 2007; he also served on the Youth Opportunities 
2Subcommittee of the Cicero Youth Task Force; he is an avid 
3supporter of SEASPAR and UCP; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Ron Kiefer has been an important member of the 
5Darien Lions Club since 2001; he has been a member of Darien's 
6Planning and Zoning Commission since October of 2002; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Ron Kiefer is known to be a good neighbor and 
8friend who checks on the well-being of his elderly neighbors, 
9clears their snow in winter, and cuts their grass in the 
10summer; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Ron Kiefer has been a resident of Darien since 
121990; he and Esther Kiefer married in 1996 and they have 2 
13children, Brian and Lynn, and 4 grandchildren, Christina, 
14Colin, Camden, and Sloane; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, Ron Kiefer epitomizes what a "citizen of the year" 
16should be; therefore, be it
  
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
18NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
19congratulate Ron Kiefer on being named the 2015 Citizen of the 
20Year by the City of Darien; and be it further
