HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to celebrate the 100th anniversary 
4of the Kankakee County Home and Community Education 
5Association; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, The Kankakee County Home and Community Education 
7Association was organized as the Home Improvement Association 
8as part of the Smith-Lever Act of 1914; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, The Kankakee County Home and Community Education 
10Association was organized to help women with a vision of better 
11health for their children, safer and nutritious food for their 
12families, a kitchen sink in every home, and the instilling of 
13leadership skills to make changes in the community and develop 
14more self-confidence in themselves; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, Over 10,000 women have participated in the 
16Kankakee County Home and Community Education Association in the 
17last 100 years; in 1962, the Association's name was changed to 
18the Homeowners Extension Association; and

  
 
19    WHEREAS, The Kankakee County Home and Community Education 
20Association has been connected with the University of Illinois 
21since the beginning; in 1996, the Association's name was

1changed to the Home and Community Education Association; 
2therefore, be it
  
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
4NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
5recognize the Kankakee County Home and Community Education 
6Association for their pioneering role in helping women of 
7Illinois to be the best homemakers they can be; and be it 
8further
  
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
10presented to the Kankakee County Home and Community Education 
11Association.
