2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the
deaths of Abigail | ||||||
4 | Adelia Liefer, 19, and Hannah Marie Porter, 20, who were killed | ||||||
5 | in a car
accident on January 10, 2015; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Both Abby Liefer and Hannah Porter were active | ||||||
7 | members of their
community, working together at the YMCA in Red | ||||||
8 | Bud, and both were renowned by
members of their community for | ||||||
9 | their generous spirits and for often going out of their way to
| ||||||
10 | help those in need; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, In an attempt to deal with her grief, Alison | ||||||
12 | Schubert, older sister of Abby Liefer,
turned to Facebook, | ||||||
13 | creating an event calling on family, friends, and neighbors to | ||||||
14 | commit random
acts of kindness in memory of Abby Liefer and | ||||||
15 | Hannah Porter on February 10, 2015, to help the
families of | ||||||
16 | both girls on the one-month anniversary of their deaths; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, The event quickly spread beyond the community in | ||||||
18 | which both girls lived, with
people joining the Facebook event | ||||||
19 | from across the country and even outside of the United States,
| ||||||
20 | including participants from locations as far away as the | ||||||
21 | Philippines, Wyoming, Florida, Colorado,
and California; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Over ten thousand participants spread random acts | ||||||
2 | of kindness throughout the day
and even in the days leading up | ||||||
3 | to and following the anniversary, handing out business cards as
| ||||||
4 | the random acts were performed to explain that the kindness was | ||||||
5 | done in honor of Abby Liefer
and Hannah Porter; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Community members who had random acts of kindness | ||||||
7 | bestowed upon them often
passed the act of kindness along, | ||||||
8 | creating a chain of acts of kindness that extended far beyond
| ||||||
9 | the families mourning the loss of Abby Liefer and Hannah | ||||||
10 | Porter; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Alison Schubert stated, "My biggest fear is that | ||||||
12 | everyone will move on. There will
be another accident, another | ||||||
13 | loss, and people won't think about Abby and Hannah anymore. I
| ||||||
14 | just want everyone to remember them. I don't want people to | ||||||
15 | ever forget"; therefore, be it
| ||||||
16 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
17 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
18 | honor the lives of Abigail
Adelia Liefer and Hannah Marie | ||||||
19 | Porter, who touched so many in such a short amount of time; and | ||||||
20 | be it further | ||||||
21 | RESOLVED, That we declare February 10, 2015 as "Abby & | ||||||
22 | Hannah's Random Act of
Kindness Day" in the State of Illinois; |

2 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
3 | presented to the families of Abby Liefer and
Hannah Porter as | ||||||
4 | an expression of our deepest sympathy.
