HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Barack Obama Foundation is currently in the
3process of selecting a location for construction of the
4President Barack Obama Presidential Library and Museum; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The final 4 locations being considered are one
6location in New York, one in Hawaii, and 2 within the City of
7Chicago - one on the West Side at the University of Illinois at
8Chicago and one on the South Side at the University of Chicago;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Chicago is the largest city in the State of
11Illinois and Illinois is the State where President Obama served
12in the Senate from 1997 through 2004, representing the 13th
13Legislative District; and
 
14    WHEREAS, The City of Chicago is President Obama's hometown;
15it is where he started both his career in public service and
16his family, and it is where his family still calls home;
17Chicago has seen its profile as a global city grow and has seen
18increased economic and cultural development by having the
19President of the United States hail from within its boarders;
20and
 
21    WHEREAS, In support of Chicago's 2 bids, the 98th Illinois

1General Assembly passed Public Act 98-1005, which provides for
2the loan or donation to a presidential library or museum any
3books, items, furniture, equipment, or other materials or
4property of former Illinois State Senator Barack Obama in the
5possession or control of the Senate; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Barack Obama Foundation is scheduled to select
7the final site by the end of March of 2015; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
10urge the Barack Obama Foundation to select one of the 2 Chicago
11bids as the location to build the President Barack Obama
12Presidential Library and Museum; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
14delivered to President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama,
15and the Barack Obama Foundation board members.
