HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the Southland College Prep Charter High School Speech Forensics Team on its success at the 2015 Illinois High School Association's (IHSA) Speech Forensics Sectional; and

WHEREAS, Southland's team placed first in 4 events and took second in 2 other competitions at the Southwest Suburban Sectional held at Oak Lawn Community High School on February 14-15, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Southland's Performance in the Round team placed first in the sectional competition; the team took top honors for their performance of a dialogue segment from playwright Chadwick Boseman's hip-hop influenced production, "Deep Azure"; team members are Jarrett Exum, Coretta Franklin, Zadok Dean, III, Anthony Harris, Kapri Echols, Kristen Carter, Tyler McCullar, Tyrin Lane, Alayna Hester, Katlyn Barksdale, and Takiyah Brown; and

WHEREAS, Other first place winners at the sectional were Delarah Wright for Humorous Interpretation, Erik Thomas and Janessa Colquitt for Dramatic Duet Acting, and Eric Thomas for Poetry Reading; Janessa Colquitt also won a second-place medal for Oratorical Declamation; Malik Bibbie tied for third-place in the Original Comedy competition; and

WHEREAS, Southland placed third in the Southwest Suburban Sectional with 33 points; and

WHEREAS, Fifteen members of Southland's team went on to compete at the IHSA State Finals in Peoria on February 21, 2015; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Southland College Prep Charter High School Speech Forensics team on its success at the 2015 Illinois High School Association's Speech Forensics Sectional; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Southland College Prep Charter High School Speech Forensics team as an expression of our esteem and respect.
