HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, School districts that do not follow laws under the 
3School Code are subject to non-recognition action by the 
4Illinois State Board of Education; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, The Illinois State Board of Education may withhold 
6General State Aid funds from any district that is not 
7recognized and is not abiding by the laws of the School Code; 
8and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, The School Code requires districts to have trained 
10personnel for the use of automated external defibrillators; and

  
 
11    WHEREAS, The School Code requires districts to include a 
12unit of instruction studying the events of black history, 
13including the history of the African slave trade, slavery in 
14America, and the vestiges of slavery in this country; 
15therefore, be it
  
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
17NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
18urge Chicago Public Schools to adhere to all laws under the 
19School Code, including the training of personnel on the use of 
20automated external defibrillators and the teaching of black 
21history in schools; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That we urge the Illinois State Board of 
2Education to ensure that Chicago Public Schools are in 
3compliance with all applicable laws and to withhold General 
4State Aid funds if it finds the district is not in compliance; 
5and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 
7delivered to the Chicago Board of Education and the Illinois 
8State Board of Education.
