| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate the First Baptist Church |
| 4 | | of
Waukegan on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of its |
| 5 | | founding; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, The First Baptist Church of Waukegan was organized |
| 7 | | in 1905 in one of its member's
homes on Lowe Avenue; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, The First Baptist Church of Waukegan is the oldest |
| 9 | | African-American Baptist church
on the North Shore, and is the |
| 10 | | mother church of 5 other churches in the area; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, The First Baptist Church of Waukegan moved to an |
| 12 | | old small frame building in the
midst of a cornfield in 1909 |
| 13 | | with only 13 members or nine families in its congregation; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, The legacy that the founders began 110 years ago |
| 15 | | continues with Pastor Lee Zachary
Maxey carrying the torch for |
| 16 | | the Lord one year at a time; therefore, be it

| 17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 18 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 19 | | congratulate the First Baptist
