HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are deeply saddened to learn of the death of longtime Illinois State Representative and Senator Robert McCarthy; and

WHEREAS, Robert McCarthy was born on May 28, 1924 in Lincoln; his parents were James and Anna McCarthy; and

WHEREAS, Robert McCarthy served proudly in the United States Army during World War II; he later graduated from Lincoln College and the University of Illinois College of Law in 1947, where he was affiliated with the Phi Delta Theta Social Fraternity; and

WHEREAS, Robert McCarthy served in the Illinois General Assembly as a State Representative from 1954 to 1960 and as a State Senator from 1961 to 1977; and

WHEREAS, During his 22 years as a State legislator, representing the Decatur area, Robert McCarthy worked tirelessly on behalf of those who entrusted him to serve; and

WHEREAS, Robert McCarthy cared deeply about the working class and was relentless in his efforts to ensure workers were treated with the respect and dignity they deserved; and

WHEREAS, Robert McCarthy was a man of great faith who believed strongly in giving back to his community; and

WHEREAS, Robert McCarthy was joined in his accomplishments by his wife of 62 years, Mary McCarthy; and

WHEREAS, Robert McCarthy's positive reputation throughout the community is a testament to his character and unwavering commitment to improving the lives of those he came into contact with; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Robert McCarthy and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Robert McCarthy as an expression of our greatest sympathy and respect.
