HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Olivet Nazarene University School of Music
3exists to cultivate the musical skills of student scholars and
4to encourage a life of service to others; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The music program is designed to complement a
6broad liberal arts education, provide the intensive
7professional training that aspiring musicians need, and meet
8the musical needs of the University, the community, and
9Olivet's educational region; and
 
10    WHEREAS, In the past 5 years, the Olivet Nazarene
11University School of Music has experienced unprecedented
12growth; the school consists of the 190-member Tiger Marching
13Band, 3 Concert Bands, 2 Orchestras, a Big Band, 2 Jazz Combos,
145 Choirs, more than 15 Chamber Ensembles, and over 500 students
15from all majors across campus who participate in music; and
 
16    WHEREAS, The 190-member Tiger Marching Band is the 5th
17largest university marching band in the State of Illinois; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Olivet Nazarene University Music Education
19graduates have a 100% placement record; and
 
20    WHEREAS, The fall of 2013 marked the beginning of the

1iLearn@olivet initiative, making ONU School of Music an
2all-iPad program; and
 
3    WHEREAS, On January 19, 2015, the Olivet Nazarene
4University School of Music received the Apple Distinguished
5Program Award; Apple currently has only 17 programs with this
6designation; the ONU School of Music is the only undergrad
7music program to receive this award; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The Olivet Nazarene University Marching Band has
9been invited to march in the News Day Parade in London, England
10on January 1, 2016; only 12 bands from the United States are
11invited to participate in this parade each year; therefore, be
12it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
15honor the Olivet Nazarene University School of Music for their
16distinguished accomplishments in music and their commitment to
17serving their community; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the Olivet Nazarene University School of Music.
