HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of the
4Isaac Hull Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution
5on the occasion of the Chapter's 100th anniversary; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Daughters of the American Revolution is a
7national patriotic organization whose members are direct
8descendants of those patriots who fought in the American
9Revolution, who, with unfailing loyalty, served as sailors,
10soldiers, and civil officers or rendered material aid to the
11cause of American independence during the Revolutionary War;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, The Daughters of the American Revolution is the
14only women's organization that reports to Congress each year;
15and
 
16    WHEREAS, The Isaac Hull Chapter of the Daughters of the
17American Revolution was organized on July 17, 1915 by Lulu H.
18Hull, a resident of Marion County; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Isaac Hull, Jr., for whom this chapter was named,
20was the great-great-grandson of Reverend Joseph, a minister of
21the established Church of England who brought a colony from his

1native land in 1653 and settled in Massachusetts, where he
2founded the town of Hull; his father, Isaac Hull, Sr. was a 1st
3Lieutenant Quartermaster in New Jersey with the Second Regiment
4Sussex County Militia; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The majority of the charter members were
6descendants of Isaac Hull, Jr.; it was decided to use his name
7for the chapter's designation; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The first Isaac Hull Chapter officers were Lulu
9Hammond Hull, Regent; Lucy Hull Parks, Vice Regent; Martha
10Rogers Bennett, Chaplain; Effie B. Brinkerhoff, Secretary;
11Lovell Hull Bell, Treasurer; Mary Ruth Williams, Registrar; and
12Nellie Larimer Moore, Historian; and
 
13    WHEREAS, The Constitution and By-Laws for the Isaac Hull
14Chapter were adopted on February 12, 1916; the Chapter's
15original minutes from 1915-1921 reside with the Marion County
16Genealogical and Historical Society offices in the
17Bryan-Bennett Library in Salem; and
 
18    WHEREAS, As of the date of the 100th anniversary, the
19officers of the Isaac Hull Chapter are: Carolyn Baker
20Stubblefield, Regent; Julie Woods Barnes, Vice-Regent; Sarah
21Jane McClelland Gaston, Chaplain; Lael Nesmith Snyder,
22Secretary; Susan Hayes Burgess, Treasurer; Sharen Lawson

1Harvey, Assistant Treasurer; Carol Simcox Wood, Registrar; and
2Ada Joyce Quick White, Historian; and
 
3    WHEREAS, The Isaac Hull Chapter sponsors Good Citizenship
4Awards at schools in Marion County, American History Essay
5contests, and school and community flag/veteran programs; the
6Chapter also promotes support for veterans, provides programs
7to veterans at the Marion Veterans Hospital and residential
8care facilities, prompts celebrations of patriotic holidays,
9presents the flag of the United States of America to new
10citizens at naturalization ceremonies, and sponsors the
11Children of the American Revolution, Daughters of the American
12Revolution Schools, and many national special committees; and
 
13    WHEREAS, At all chapter meetings, the Isaac Hull Chapter
14begins each meeting with a prayer, a recitation of the Pledge
15of Allegiance, the American's Creed, and the Preamble to the
16Constitution of the United States of America, and a performance
17of The Star Spangled Banner; as a Daughter of the American
18Revolution, each daughter makes an oath and accepts the duty to
19love our country, support the Constitution, obey its laws,
20respect its flag, and defend it against all enemies; and
 
21    WHEREAS, The Isaac Hull Chapter of the Daughters of the
22American Revolution will mark its 100th anniversary on July 17,
232015 with a reception in Marion County; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
3congratulate the members of the Isaac Hull Chapter of the
4Daughters of the American Revolution on the occasion of its
5100th anniversary and wish the organization and its members
6continued success in the future; and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to the Isaac Hull Chapter of the Daughters of the
9American Revolution as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
