HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Edward
4Jordan, who passed away on March 1, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Edward Jordan was born on April 3, 1923 in
6Shuqualak, Mississippi; his parents were Channie (nee Ivy)
7Jordan and Edmond Jordan; he married Alma (nee Johnson) Jordan
8on July 13, 1936; she preceded him in death on March 18, 1998;
9he married Mildred Jordan on June 30, 2001; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Edward Jordan found the Lord at an early age and
11became a faithful member of Bethal A.M.E. church in Murphysboro
12until its closing; he later joined and became a faithful member
13of Bethal A.M.E. Church in Carbondale until his passing; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Edward Jordan was employed by the Gulf, Mobile,
15and Ohio Railroad for 32 years until his retirement in February
16of 1975; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Edward Jordan was an avid fisherman and was famous
18for his homemade jelly; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Edward Jordan was a founding member of the Gospel
20Quartet Spiritual Travelers of Carbondale; he dedicated over 50

1years of his life singing praises for the Lord with the
2Spiritual Travelers; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Edward Jordan was preceded in death by his first
4wife and 2 sons, Peter (Harriet) Jordan and Edward (Joyce)
5Jordan, Jr.; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Edward Jordan is survived by his wife, Mildred; 2
7sons, Leroy (Johnetta) Jordan and Melvin (Martha) Jordan; 2
8daughters, Margaret (Leon) Griffin and Linda Jordan; a brother,
9Joseph Jordan; a sister, Gracie (Roland) Byrd; his many nieces,
10nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; and one
11great-great-grandchild; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of
15Edward Jordan; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Edward Jordan as an expression of
18our sympathy.
