HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Reginald A. Wright, Jr. on 
4the occasion of his retirement as the Proviso East High School 
5Band Director; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Reginald Wright, Jr. was born in Darlington, South 
7Carolina on September 14, 1950 to Reginald A., Sr. and Dorothy 
8B. Wright; he attended elementary and high school in 
9Charleston, South Carolina and graduated from C.A. Brown High 
10School in 1968, with honors; in 1972, he graduated from South 
11Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science in Music 
12Education Instrumental; he furthered his education at the 
13University of South Carolina, National-Lewis University 
14(Administration), and the VanderCook College of Music, where he 
15received a Masters of Music Education; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, Reginald Wright, Jr. came to the Chicago area in 
171986 and worked as a music educator in District 88 schools; he 
18joined Proviso East High School in 1993, inheriting  a band of 
1914 members; the Proviso East High School Marching Band has 
20grown in excellence as well as numbers over the past years and 
21to this  date has over a 100 members; and
  
 
22    WHEREAS, In 2005, District 209 entrusted the direction of

1the district band to Reginald Wright, Jr.; the Proviso Township 
2High School Band has a membership of approximately 300 
3students; and
  
 
  
4    WHEREAS, Reginald Wright, Jr. is a member of Omega Psi Phi 
5Fraternity; he has won many awards, including the Illinois 
6Alliance for Arts Education Award, the VanderCook College of 
7Music Outstanding Service to Music Education Award, and the 
8Maywood Park District Community Spirit Award; he
is a 
9clinician, teacher, and adjudicator for bands throughout the 
10South East and Midwest; therefore, be it
  
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
12NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
13congratulate Reginald A. Wright, Jr. on his retirement as the 
14Proviso East High School Band Director and we wish him the best 
15in all his future endeavors; and be it further
  
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
17presented to Reginald Wright, Jr. as an expression of our 
18esteem and respect.
