HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of James
4Kenneth Powless, who passed away on April 18, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, James Powless was born in Carbondale on April 9,
61949 to Kenneth Barnett and Emily Mary (nee Cygnar) Powless; he
7married Susan Elizabeth Reed on June 13, 1970 in Marion; he
8earned his Bachelor of Science in Finance in 1971 and a Juris
9Doctor in 1974 from the University of Illinois
10Urbana-Champaign; and
 
11    WHEREAS, James Powless practiced law in Marion and owned
12William County Title and Abstract; and
 
13    WHEREAS, James Powless was a member of Aldersgate United
14Methodist Church of Marion; he enjoyed fishing, reading,
15cooking, tinkering, teaching, and listening to folk music; he
16volunteered for the Marion Regional Humane Society and
17substitute taught for the Marion and Carterville school
18districts; he invested many years coaching a summer softball
19league; and
 
20    WHEREAS, James Powless was preceded in death by his parents
21and his father-in-law, George Pullis; and

1    WHEREAS, James Powless is survived by his wife of 44 years,
2Susan; his 2 daughters and son-in-law, Sarah Filkins and Jamie
3and Will Miller; his 3 grandsons, Colin Filkins, Jack Miller,
4and Finnegan Miller; his sisters, Linda Powless and Catherine
5Powless; his brother and sister-in-law, David and Patty
6Powless; his mother-in-law, Carol Pullis; several nephews and
7nieces; many friends; and the many students whom he enjoyed
8teaching in the Marion Unit 2 and Carterville Unit 5 school
9districts; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12mourn the passing of James Kenneth Powless, and extend our
13sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
14and loved him; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of James Powless as an expression of
17our deepest sympathy.
