| 2 | WHEREAS, The 21st annual convention of the Association of | ||||||
| 3 | Lincoln Presenters was held April
16-19, 2015 in Vandalia at | ||||||
| 4 | the Historic Vandalia Statehouse; 2015 marks the 150th
| ||||||
| 5 | anniversary of the passing of the 16th President of the United
| ||||||
| 6 | States of America, Abraham Lincoln; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, The Association of Lincoln Presenters is an | ||||||
| 8 | organization of men and women
dedicated to bringing Abraham and | ||||||
| 9 | Mary Todd Lincoln to life through presentations that
educate, | ||||||
| 10 | entertain, and inspire, as well as to preserving the legacy of | ||||||
| 11 | Abraham and Mary Todd
Lincoln, to honor their words and works, | ||||||
| 12 | and walk in their footsteps; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, There are over 1,500 Abraham Lincoln sites | ||||||
| 14 | available on the Internet; the
Association of Lincoln | ||||||
| 15 | Presenters brought 150 living "Lincolns" directly to the | ||||||
| 16 | public, as seen on
C-SPAN in the Lincoln-Douglas debates | ||||||
| 17 | reenactment, and in schools, plays, historical societies, | ||||||
| 18 | movies,
parades, and celebrations throughout the world; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, This year's convention included a Lincoln forum at | ||||||
| 20 | the Statehouse, a Lincoln
presenter parade along Gallatin | ||||||
| 21 | Street, a cemetery walk back into history at the South Hill
| ||||||
| 22 | Cemetery, a Lincoln ball at the Moose Lodge #1447, a 'Drinkin' | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | with Lincoln' social and surprise
birthday party for the local | ||||||
| 2 | Lincoln Presenter, Lewis "Abe" Clymer, at the Copper Penny Bar & | ||||||
| 3 |
Grille, and church services at the First Church of God; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, The Historic Vandalia Statehouse is where Mr. | ||||||
| 5 | Lincoln began his political career and
made his first speech in | ||||||
| 6 | opposition to the expansion of slavery; Vandalia was also a | ||||||
| 7 | stop on the
Underground Railroad to Freedom; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 8 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 9 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 10 | congratulate the Association of Lincoln Presenters on a | ||||||
| 11 | successful convention and thank them
in their efforts to help | ||||||
| 12 | inspire others and educate everyone on the history and impact | ||||||
| 13 | of
Abraham Lincoln to the City of Vandalia, the County of | ||||||
| 14 | Fayette, the State of Illinois, the United States of
America, | ||||||
| 15 | and the world; and be it further
| ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
| 17 | presented to all Abraham Lincoln, Mary
Todd Lincoln, and | ||||||
| 18 | Frederick Douglass presenters, as well as the other historical | ||||||
| 19 | presenters
portrayed in the historical cemetery walk, | ||||||
| 20 | organizers, officials, and the Friends of the Vandalia
| ||||||
| 21 | Statehouse who helped to make this event a success.
