| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Greater St. James Temple | ||||||
| 4 | Institutional Church of God in Christ on the occasion its 75th | ||||||
| 5 | anniversary in 2015; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, The history of Greater St. James began in the City | ||||||
| 7 | of North Chicago in 1936 when a small group came together under | ||||||
| 8 | the direction of Elder Eugene Robinson as their first pastor; | ||||||
| 9 | they found a small brick building on 15th Street and Elizabeth | ||||||
| 10 | Avenue and the North Chicago Junction Church of God in Christ | ||||||
| 11 | was born; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, In the 1940s, under the leadership of Pastor James | ||||||
| 13 | W. Markham, the church's name was changed to the St. James | ||||||
| 14 | Temple Church of God in Christ; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, During the 1950s and 1960s, the church became too | ||||||
| 16 | small for the ever-growing congregation, and, in June of 1977, | ||||||
| 17 | a new church was built on Wright Avenue in North Chicago and | ||||||
| 18 | its name became the Greater St. James Temple Church of God in | ||||||
| 19 | Christ; and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, Today, Greater St. James helps the North Chicago | ||||||
| 21 | and Lake County communities through their non-profit, | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | faith-based corporation, the Greater St. James Community | ||||||
| 2 | Development Corporation (GSJCDC) of North Chicago; it has | ||||||
| 3 | awarded over $32,000 in scholarships to high school and college | ||||||
| 4 | students, established a capital project fund at Fifth Third | ||||||
| 5 | Bank on behalf of the North Chicago Community High School, and | ||||||
| 6 | partnered with Alice Sample's "Make A Child Smile" Foundation | ||||||
| 7 | to distribute free Christmas toys to children throughout the | ||||||
| 8 | community; it has also united with Tabitha Community Services | ||||||
| 9 | of Chicago to give assistance to thousands of people in the | ||||||
| 10 | area who are victims of domestic violence and homelessness; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, A celebration dinner will be held on June 19, 2015 | ||||||
| 12 | at the Holiday Inn Gurnee Convention Center; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 14 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 15 | congratulate Greater St. James Temple Institutional Church of | ||||||
| 16 | God in Christ on its 75th anniversary in 2015 and we wish them | ||||||
| 17 | many more wonderful years; and be it further
| ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 19 | presented to Greater St. James Temple Institutional Church of | ||||||
| 20 | God in Christ as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
