| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are honored to congratulate Joanne K. Glasser | ||||||
| 4 | on her retirement as President of Bradley University; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, President Glasser is a graduate of George | ||||||
| 6 | Washington University in Washington, D.C. and the University of | ||||||
| 7 | Maryland School of Law; she also has a certificate from the | ||||||
| 8 | Harvard University Graduate School of Education Institute for | ||||||
| 9 | Higher Education Management in Boston; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Prior to her presidency at Bradley University, | ||||||
| 11 | President Glasser, a native of Baltimore, served as president | ||||||
| 12 | of Eastern Kentucky University, as executive vice president and | ||||||
| 13 | chief advancement officer at Towson University, and as an | ||||||
| 14 | attorney and labor commissioner for the Baltimore County | ||||||
| 15 | government; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Under President Glasser's leadership, Bradley | ||||||
| 17 | University has enrolled the best classes academically on record | ||||||
| 18 | in the University's history for fall 2012, 2013, and 2014 based | ||||||
| 19 | on ACT scores; her other academic initiatives include the | ||||||
| 20 | launch of both a Pre-Law Center and a PreProfessional Health | ||||||
| 21 | Advisory Center; she also helped Bradley University create | ||||||
| 22 | programs in interactive media, game and web design, social | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | media marketing, accelerated nursing, global supply chain | ||||||
| 2 | management, hospitality leadership, sports communication, and | ||||||
| 3 | a dietetics internship curriculum; in 2015, the University | ||||||
| 4 | launched an initiative to offer online graduate programs in | ||||||
| 5 | nursing and counseling; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Numerous "firsts" occurred throughout her | ||||||
| 7 | presidency; the Mund-Lagowski Department of Chemistry and | ||||||
| 8 | Biochemistry became the first department to be named in the | ||||||
| 9 | University's history; Bradley University's Executive MBA | ||||||
| 10 | program was named in 2009 after Dr. Theresa Falcon, the first | ||||||
| 11 | EMBA program in the world to be named for a woman and by a | ||||||
| 12 | woman; President Glasser and the Board of Trustees announced | ||||||
| 13 | the creation of the Robert and Carolyn Turner School of | ||||||
| 14 | Entrepreneurship and Innovation in 2012; Bradley University is | ||||||
| 15 | among the first universities in the nation to have a school of | ||||||
| 16 | entrepreneurship and the first established as a freestanding | ||||||
| 17 | academic unit; a second school was established for iconic | ||||||
| 18 | sportscaster Charley Steiner in 2015, The Charley Steiner | ||||||
| 19 | School of Sports Communication, which is the first such school | ||||||
| 20 | to be named in the nation; acknowledging a decades-long history | ||||||
| 21 | of support for the University, President Glasser announced the | ||||||
| 22 | naming of the Caterpillar College of Engineering and Technology | ||||||
| 23 | in 2012; and
| ||||||
| 24 | WHEREAS, President Glasser successfully completed the | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | largest comprehensive capital campaign, the campaign for a | ||||||
| 2 | Bradley Renaissance, in the University's history; the campaign | ||||||
| 3 | that changed the face of the University surpassed its goal of | ||||||
| 4 | $150 million; the first phase of the Renaissance included | ||||||
| 5 | construction of the $30 million Markin Family Student | ||||||
| 6 | Recreation Center and a 600-car parking deck; the $50 million, | ||||||
| 7 | 4,200-seat Renaissance Coliseum, home to the women's | ||||||
| 8 | basketball and volleyball teams and the Men's Basketball | ||||||
| 9 | Practice Facility opened in 2010; the $12 million Hayden-Clark | ||||||
| 10 | Alumni Center which was completed in 2011, earning LEED Silver | ||||||
| 11 | certification from the United States Green Building Council; | ||||||
| 12 | the expansion and renovation of Westlake Hall, the | ||||||
| 13 | second-oldest building on campus, was completed in 2012, | ||||||
| 14 | earning LEED Gold certification from the United States Green | ||||||
| 15 | Building Council; and | ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, President Glasser serves as the chair of the NCAA | ||||||
| 17 | Division I Committee on Institutional Performance (formerly | ||||||
| 18 | the NCAA Division I Committee on Athletics Certification) and | ||||||
| 19 | as vice chair of its Executive Subcommittee; she was a member | ||||||
| 20 | of the Board of Directors: Division I Presidential Advisory | ||||||
| 21 | Group; she is also a member of the Commission on Women in | ||||||
| 22 | Higher Education Task Force, the Council for Advancement and | ||||||
| 23 | Support of Education, and a former member of the American | ||||||
| 24 | Council on Education Commission on Effective Leadership; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, A student-focused university with an emphasis on | ||||||
| 2 | student-learning and success, President Glasser is a champion | ||||||
| 3 | of students; she was nationally recognized for her student | ||||||
| 4 | engagement by The Chronicle of Higher Education, which | ||||||
| 5 | published a story about the Office Hours she holds monthly for | ||||||
| 6 | students; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, President Glasser was the honorary chair of the | ||||||
| 8 | 25th annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Peoria, | ||||||
| 9 | hometown of Ms. Komen and her sister, Nancy Brinker, founder of | ||||||
| 10 | the Komen Foundation and Race for the Cure; under her | ||||||
| 11 | leadership, the University received an international award | ||||||
| 12 | from Susan G. Komen for the Cure: the 2011 Outstanding | ||||||
| 13 | Volunteer Group Award; in 2011, she was honored with the Peoria | ||||||
| 14 | YWCA Education and Care of Children Award for her many | ||||||
| 15 | contributions at Bradley; President Glasser also was the | ||||||
| 16 | recipient of the Bradley University 2010 Megan Fong Inspiration | ||||||
| 17 | Award; therefore, be it

| 18 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 19 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 20 | congratulate Joanne K. Glasser on her retirement as President | ||||||
| 21 | of Bradley University and for her dedicated service and | ||||||
| 22 | leadership to the Bradley University community; and be it | ||||||
