HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Grace Christian Academy
4(GCA) of Kankakee as they travel to Washington, D.C. to compete
5in the national finals of the 13th annual Team America Rocketry
6Challenge (TARC) on May 9, 2015; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The GCA Rocket Team will compete against 99 other
8qualifying teams, out of 700 from across the United States; and
 
9    WHEREAS, TARC is the United States aerospace and defense
10industry's flagship program designed to encourage students to
11pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math
12(STEM); the competition challenges middle and high school age
13students to design, build, and fly a rocket to meet specific
14altitude and flight duration parameters; this year's rules
15require a rocket carrying a raw egg to reach 800 feet and
16return it to Earth uncracked within 46 to 48 seconds; and
 
17    WHEREAS, GCA's Rocket Club is a 100% student led team, in
18conjunction with Grace Christian Academy's Science Department,
19which designs and launches rockets; students use a professional
20design software called Solid Works to engineer rockets and
21simulate the field readiness before any build session; students
22are constantly acquiring STEM related experience as they

1overcome many of the design challenges; and
 
2    WHEREAS, GCA's Rocket Team will be competing for more than
3$60,000 in prizes and scholarships and the opportunity to
4represent the United States at the International Rocketry
5Challenge taking place at the Paris International Air Show in
6June of 2015; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
9congratulate Grace Christian Academy as they compete in the
1013th annual Team Rocketry Challenge finals on May 9, 2015; and
11be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to GCA as an expression of our esteem and respect.
