| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate John Szabo on the occasion |
| 4 | | of his retirement as Athletic Director at Bloomington High |
| 5 | | School (BHS); and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, John Szabo is retiring from his position as |
| 7 | | Athletic Director at Bloomington
High School in Bloomington |
| 8 | | School District 87 after 22 years; he taught
Physical Education |
| 9 | | for 11 years and also served as Head Coach for Boys' Track & |
| 10 | | Field
and Boys' & Girls' Cross Country; he spent a total of 33 |
| 11 | | years at BHS; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, John Szabo led BHS's Boys' Track & Field team to |
| 13 | | 10 indoor and 8
outdoor conference championships, 5 Illinois |
| 14 | | High School Association (IHSA) Sectional Championships, and |
| 15 | | one
3rd place finish in the 2013 IHSA State Track Meet, giving |
| 16 | | BHS its first State trophy; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, John Szabo led BHS's Boys' & Girls' Cross Country |
| 18 | | team to 11 conference
championships, 16 IHSA Regional |
| 19 | | Championships, and one IHSA Sectional
Championship, with, over |
| 20 | | the years, 13 boys' teams and one girls' team,
qualifying for |
| 21 | | IHSA State Cross Country Meets; and
|
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, John Szabo was honored as Class AA Outstanding |
| 2 | | Athletic Director of the Year in
2001 and 2003; he was inducted |
| 3 | | into the Illinois Track & Cross Country Coaches
Association |
| 4 | | Hall of Fame in 2005, was selected National Federation of State |
| 5 | | High School
Associations Track & Field Coach of the Year in |
| 6 | | 2006, and was honored as Illinois
Athletic Directors |
| 7 | | Association Class 3A/4A Athletic Director of the Year in 2010; |
| 8 | | and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, John Szabo has unselfishly given his time before, |
| 10 | | during, and after school hours to
support the Raiders in their |
| 11 | | endeavors; he demonstrates his belief that every athlete in
|
| 12 | | every sport is important; he was an outstanding mentor to |
| 13 | | youth, including 47 All-State
Track & Field athletes and 13 |
| 14 | | All-State Cross Country runners; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, John Szabo was instrumental in upgrading and |
| 16 | | improving athletic facilities at BHS,
benefiting all students |
| 17 | | in District 87; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, John Szabo has served as an active member of many |
| 19 | | local boards and service clubs; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, John Szabo has a wonderful family; he has been |
| 21 | | married to Judy for more than 30
years, and they have 2 adult |
| 22 | | children, Ashley and Andy, who both are graduates
from BHS and |

| 1 | | from college; therefore, be it
|
| 2 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 3 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 4 | | congratulate John Szabo on his retirement as Athletic Director |
| 5 | | at Bloomington High School; and be it further
|
| 6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 7 | | presented to John Szabo as an expression of our esteem and |
| 8 | | respect.
