HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives recognize the many phenomenal artistic and cultural wonders of our great State; and

WHEREAS, A number of Frank Lloyd Wright architectural designs, both residential and commercial, have long graced our communities; the Emil Bach Home remains a century-old local treasure along Sheridan Road on Chicago's North Side; and

WHEREAS, The home was designed in 1915 for Emil Bach, President of Bach Brick Company in Chicago, with all of Wright's legendary flair; the compact two-story home with Prairie style appropriations was constructed during a personally difficult period of Wright's life, following the tragic death of his wife in the Taliesan fire; and

WHEREAS, Frank Lloyd Wright began work on the Bach family home following his return from Europe; he then commenced with the Midway Garden project in 1914 and departed for construction of the Imperial Hotel in Japan after the home's completion in 1915; and

WHEREAS, The progressively designed, yet human-centric home was designated as a Chicago landmark in 1977; the home was subsequently placed on the United States Register of Historic Places in 1979 and was meticulously renovated in 2013 for vacation lodging and travel events; and

WHEREAS, Frank Lloyd Wright's boldly democratic style focused on architecture for everyman, as opposed to everyman for a single architecture, through the use of careful standardization; no other modern architect had such a diverse career, from designing skyscrapers and gas stations to factories and flower stalls; and

WHEREAS, The Emil Bach Home proudly commemorates its centennial this year; the Home continues to serve Chicago's North Side community culturally, aesthetically, and economically; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we proudly commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Emil Bach Home as an important landmark for Chicago and American artistic history.
