2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Rabbi Carl Wolkin on the |
4 | | occasion of his retirement as Senior Rabbi of Congregation Beth |
5 | | Shalom in Northbrook; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Rabbi Carl Wolkin earned his Bachelor of Arts in |
7 | | Classics from Columbia University in 1968; he subsequently |
8 | | received his rabbinic ordination from the Jewish Theological |
9 | | Seminary in 1973; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, After teaching at the Hebrew High School of Temple |
11 | | Israel of Great Neck, Rabbi Carl Wolkin served as the Associate |
12 | | Rabbi of the congregation from 1972 to 1980; in 1980, he was |
13 | | selected to serve as the Rabbi of Congregation Beth Shalom in |
14 | | Northbrook; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Rabbi Carl Wolkin was a strong and dependable |
16 | | leader at Congregation Beth Shalom, always striving to better |
17 | | serve the needs and desires of a diverse and growing |
18 | | membership, while also adhering to his strong, traditional |
19 | | Jewish values; and |
20 | | WHEREAS, During his tenure, Rabbi Carl Wolkin has served as |
21 | | the President of the Northbrook Clergy Association and the |

1 | | Chicago Region of the Rabbinical Assembly; he has also served |
2 | | as president of the Chicago Board of Rabbis and a member of the |
3 | | Jewish United Fund Board; he continues to serve as the |
4 | | President of the Community Mikvah of the Conservative Movement |
5 | | and is a member of the Rabbinic Advisory Council of the |
6 | | Chicagoland Jewish High School; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, In 2004, Rabbi Carl Wolkin was in the first group |
8 | | of graduates of the Center for Rabbinic Enrichment of the |
9 | | Shalom Hartman Institute in Jerusalem; this group of North |
10 | | American Rabbis completed a 3-year program of study at the |
11 | | Institute in Jerusalem and in the United States; he has also |
12 | | studied Conservative Yeshiva in Jerusalem; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Rabbi Carl Wolkin and his wife, Judy, have 2 |
14 | | children, Joshua and David, and a daughter-in-law, Keeli; and |
15 | | WHEREAS, Rabbi Carl Wolkin serves as a model of hard work, |
16 | | integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of |
17 | | Illinois; therefore, be it

18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
19 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
20 | | congratulate Rabbi Carl Wolkin on the occasion of his |
21 | | retirement and wish him continued success and happiness in the |
22 | | future; and be it further
