2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Kay Marie |
4 | | Hurt of Aurora, who passed away on May 9, 2015; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Kay Hurt was born on March 8, 1941 in Waterloo, |
6 | | Iowa; her parents were Anthony and Viola "Ollie" (nee Blocker) |
7 | | Kupris; and |
8 | | WHEREAS, Kay Hurt graduated from West Waterloo High School; |
9 | | she subsequently graduated from the University of Iowa in 1963; |
10 | | and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Kay Hurt had a 40-plus year career in retail |
12 | | management, beginning at Carson Pirie Scott in Chicago; she was |
13 | | the owner and operator of Jean Marie's Clothing Store in |
14 | | Aurora; she later went to work for H.C. Lytton's and Marshall |
15 | | Field's, where she received the "Fields Finest" recognition |
16 | | award in 2001; she retired from retail management in 2003; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, Kay Hurt devoted her time and talent to many |
18 | | organizations; she served as President and was a life member of |
19 | | the American Association of University Women; she was a board |
20 | | member of Mutual Ground for over 30 years and served as |
21 | | President for 4 years; she was a member of the Child Welfare |

1 | | Society in Aurora and served as President of the organization; |
2 | | she was selected as a YWCA "Woman of Distinction" in 2005; most |
3 | | recently, she served as a volunteer at the Lifelong Learning |
4 | | Institute at Waubonsee College; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Kay Hurt was preceded in death by her parents and |
6 | | other close family members; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Kay Hurt is survived by her loving husband, Gary |
8 | | B. Hurt; a son, Stephen B. Hurt (friend, Sara Peters); a |
9 | | daughter, Jennifer Kay (Parish) Swanson; 3 grandchildren, |
10 | | Ashley (Dennis) Morsch, Byren (Melissa) Swanson, and Gunnar |
11 | | Swanson; 4 great-grandchildren, Mckinlee and Paisley Morsch |
12 | | and Audrey and Odessa Swanson; a brother, Jerry Kupris; and |
13 | | many nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends; |
14 | | therefore, be it

15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
16 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
17 | | we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Kay |
18 | | Marie Hurt; and be it further

19 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
20 | | presented to the family of Kay Hurt as an expression of our |
21 | | sympathy.
