HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Kay Marie
4Hurt of Aurora, who passed away on May 9, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Kay Hurt was born on March 8, 1941 in Waterloo,
6Iowa; her parents were Anthony and Viola "Ollie" (nee Blocker)
7Kupris; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Kay Hurt graduated from West Waterloo High School;
9she subsequently graduated from the University of Iowa in 1963;
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, Kay Hurt had a 40-plus year career in retail
12management, beginning at Carson Pirie Scott in Chicago; she was
13the owner and operator of Jean Marie's Clothing Store in
14Aurora; she later went to work for H.C. Lytton's and Marshall
15Field's, where she received the "Fields Finest" recognition
16award in 2001; she retired from retail management in 2003; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Kay Hurt devoted her time and talent to many
18organizations; she served as President and was a life member of
19the American Association of University Women; she was a board
20member of Mutual Ground for over 30 years and served as
21President for 4 years; she was a member of the Child Welfare

1Society in Aurora and served as President of the organization;
2she was selected as a YWCA "Woman of Distinction" in 2005; most
3recently, she served as a volunteer at the Lifelong Learning
4Institute at Waubonsee College; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Kay Hurt was preceded in death by her parents and
6other close family members; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Kay Hurt is survived by her loving husband, Gary
8B. Hurt; a son, Stephen B. Hurt (friend, Sara Peters); a
9daughter, Jennifer Kay (Parish) Swanson; 3 grandchildren,
10Ashley (Dennis) Morsch, Byren (Melissa) Swanson, and Gunnar
11Swanson; 4 great-grandchildren, Mckinlee and Paisley Morsch
12and Audrey and Odessa Swanson; a brother, Jerry Kupris; and
13many nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends;
14therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Kay
18Marie Hurt; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Kay Hurt as an expression of our
21sympathy.
