| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to recognize Jeneva Stevens and |
| 4 | | congratulate her on her many accomplishments; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jeneva Stevens is the 5th of 7 children born to |
| 6 | | Oliver McCall and Alethia; she and her family spent time living |
| 7 | | in the State of Virginia and the south suburbs of Chicago with |
| 8 | | her grandmother, Shirley Watson; she often missed out on family |
| 9 | | functions and afterschool activities in order to care for her |
| 10 | | grandmother when ill; in 2002, as her grandmother recovered, |
| 11 | | she began to participate in extracurricular activities such as |
| 12 | | track and field; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, In 2008, Jeneva Stevens graduated high school with |
| 14 | | the honors of being name Rookie of the Year in 2005 and twice
|
| 15 | | being named the Most Valuable Athlete; she participated in the |
| 16 | | high school state track meet in both Virginia and Illinois; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Jeneva Stevens received a full scholarship to |
| 18 | | Southern Illinois University in Carbondale; she graduated with |
| 19 | | a
degree in psychology in 2012 and accomplished spectacular |
| 20 | | things for the SIU track team; her
accomplishments include: 15x |
| 21 | | Missouri Valley Champion;
3x Missouri Valley Most Valuable |
| 22 | | Athlete; 3x Missouri Valley Most Outstanding Performer; 4x West |

| 12 | | for the farthest distance ever thrown by an American woman |
| 13 | | overseas in the
hammer throw; in Kazan, Russia, at the World |
| 14 | | University Games, she became the 1st American woman to medal in |
| 15 | | the hammer throw overseas, becoming the 2nd American to ever |
| 16 | | beat Russians on Russian soil; she placed 9th in the hammer |
| 17 | | throw at the World Championships in Moscow, Russia
and ranked |
| 18 | | No.1 in the hammer throw for women in the United States; and

| 19 | | WHEREAS, In 2014, Jeneva Stevens ranked 6th in the world |
| 20 | | for women in the hammer throw and
8th in the world for women in |
| 21 | | the shot put
and she placed 8th at the Indoor World |
| 22 | | Championships held in Poland; therefore, be it
