| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Garrett | ||||||
| 4 | FitzGerald, who passed away on May 9, 2015; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Garrett FitzGerald was born on August 26, 1976; | ||||||
| 6 | and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Garrett FitzGerald was the Executive Director of | ||||||
| 8 | the Northcenter Chamber of
Commerce since 2006 and the Chief | ||||||
| 9 | Executive Officer of the Northwest Community
Corporation; he | ||||||
| 10 | was a leader in promoting the economic development and vitality | ||||||
| 11 | of the North
Center neighborhood; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Under Garrett FitzGerald's leadership, the | ||||||
| 13 | membership of the Northcenter Chamber of
Commerce grew from 23 | ||||||
| 14 | members to nearly 400; he was also the driving force behind
| ||||||
| 15 | expanding the chamber's programming such as the concert series | ||||||
| 16 | and movies in the square; he lead
Ribfest into becoming one of | ||||||
| 17 | Chicago's most successful summer festivals; and | ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Garrett FitzGerald served on the Illinois Civil | ||||||
| 19 | Service Commission as a Commissioner
and as Chairman since | ||||||
| 20 | 2011; he was a member of the staff for former 47th Ward
| ||||||
| 21 | Alderman Eugene Schulter and Cook County Commissioner Forrest | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | Claypool; and | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Garrett FitzGerald was an active volunteer in the | ||||||
| 3 | community, serving as the past
Treasurer and Chairman of the | ||||||
| 4 | Board at Neumann Family Services, a member of the St. Benedict
| ||||||
| 5 | School Board of Directors, an elected member of the Bell School | ||||||
| 6 | Local Advisory Council, and
the 4th Congressional District | ||||||
| 7 | Representative on the Citizens' Utility Board; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Garrett FitzGerald was the beloved husband of | ||||||
| 9 | Alicia (nee Johnson); the loving father of Bridget; the | ||||||
| 10 | glorious son of Kathleen (nee Whalen) and
Thomas FitzGerald; | ||||||
| 11 | the fond brother of Meghan Wiegold (nee FitzGerald); and nephew | ||||||
| 12 | of many aunts and uncles; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 14 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 15 | mourn the passing of Garrett FitzGerald, and extend our sincere | ||||||
| 16 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
| 17 | him; and be it further
| ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 19 | presented to the family of Garrett FitzGerald as an expression | ||||||
| 20 | of our deepest sympathy.
